Compare and Contrast

In the stories that I have read, which are "The Fight" by Richard Wright and "The Confrontation" by Raymond Barrio there is many differences and similarities. Each of the stories shows one way that we can go about a situation; "The Fight shows that fighting is one way that we can gain your respect and stand up for our-self meanwhile "The Confrontation" shows by speaking our mind is another way to stand up for our-self. In both of these stories they deal with the everyday real life situations. There is always a time no matter where we at that we are going to have to earn our respect either it's from somebody in our school or our boss. There was a quote in "The Confrontation" by Raymond Barrio and it was "men are built to experience a certain sense of honor and pride". This quotes is saying that every man is going to have a moment where they are going to show and protect what they honor and their pride.

The similarities between "The Fight" and "The Confrontation" is that both stories deal with the fact of them standing up for themselves and about them gaining their respect. "Men are built to experience a certain sense of honor and pride"; is a quote that means that both the narrator and Manuel had an experience where they had to gain respect and stand up for themselves and to gain their pride. They both gained their respect from their peers and wasn't bothered anymore. The narrators school and Manuel's bosses would never find out about the fights not unless anybody snitches. Before their fight/argument they both had stood calm and trying not to show their anger and that each of those people were getting to them. While trying to hide their anger towards the people that was getting them mad they both broke and ended up getting into a fight/argument with that person. These were the similarities that had found between "The Fight" by Richard Wright and "The confrontation" by Raymond Barrio.

The differences between "The Fight" by Richard Wright and "The Confrontation" by Raymond Barrio is that in "The Fight" the narrator gets into a fist fight with the boy meanwhile Manuel gets into an argument with his boss. "The Fight takes place in a school and " The Confrontation" takes place in a workplace (endless maze of apricot trees). The other difference is that the narrator is new to the school and Manuel has been doing this job for awhile now, and his boss has been stealing from his own people. "First trial came not in books but in how one's fellows took one, what value they placed upon one's willingness to fight" is a quote in "The Fight" and it refers to the narrator in that story because what it is saying is that the challenge doesn't come in our academic skills it is when we are willing to fight. Manuel had gained respect from the other workers in the workplace meanwhile the narrator gained respect from his classmates in the school.
